Starting something new today…a weekly post of gratitude…why gratitude?
…because expressing gratitude can transform the way we think, feel and behave. Being thankful for the big and the small things in our life creates a calmer; more focused; more positive state of mind. Appreciating what we have, rather than worrying about what we don’t have, reduces stress; increases happiness and improves our relationships.

Studies show that expressing gratitude can significantly transform your life. Whether you choose to keep a gratitude journal or silently acknowledge what you are thankful for during a quiet meditative moment; there are many benefits to creating a habit of being grateful.

Creating a habit of acknowledging the little things that bring joy, comfort or peace of mind, opens your heart up to greater joy, comfort and peace of mind.

And so each week I want to share a few of the things I am truly thankful for, as part of my gratitude habit (and as a way of sharing a little more about me). I hope by sharing the things I am thankful for, others will be inspired to think about all the little joys in their own lives and give thanks.
This week’s thankful things include:
- This week (and every day of every week) I am thankful for coffee. From the first slow cup in the morning to the afternoon pick-me-up cup, and all the cups in between, coffee is one of my favourite every day indulgences and I am super particular about it – drinking only the one brand and the one flavour out of the same travel mug that I have had for over 5 years. Obsessive much?….yep! So much so that, my hubby, worried about how I would feel (and how I would survive) if my cup broke or got lost, searched the whole of the internet to find the exact same (long ago discontinued) cup to have in the cupboard as a back up cup for when the inevitable happens. It arrived this week all the way from the other side of the world….super grateful for hubby’s forward thinking.
- I am thankful for the sun pouring into my room….once upon a time it used to be the craft/spare room…now it is where I write my blog, read, journal and meditate. It is my favourite room in the house…it’s where I find my peace…a dedicated space for just being me.
- I am thankful for bed socks…it’s starting to get cooler here as Autumn settles in and the tiled floor is cold. Brrrr!
- I am thankful for the strange new book I am reading…’The Beginning Woods” by Malcolm McNeill. Not really my type of book at all but I can’t stop thinking about it even when I’m trying to do something else…like write this blog post…it is sitting here on my desk just waiting to be picked up again… Has anyone else read it?
Of course I am thankful for the big things like my beautiful family, having a roof over my head, food to eat, air to breathe etc… but I want to focus these posts on the little things that make life truly wonderful. It’s in the little things that joy resides.
