First Impression Friday – Ask Again, Yes

Here’s a little Friday something called First Impression Friday hosted by J W Martin.

First Impression Friday is a meme where you talk about a book that you have JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only a chapter or two in, maybe a little further. Based on this sampling, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.

The Blurb: Gillam, upstate New York: a town of ordinary, big lawned, suburban houses. The Gleeson’s have recently moved there and soon welcome the Stanhopes as their new neighbours. Lonely Lena Gleeson wants a friend but Anne Stanhope – cold, elegant, unstable – wants to be left alone.

It’s up to their children – Lena’s youngest, Kate, and Anne’s only child, Peter – to find their way to one another. To form a friendship whose resilience and love will be almost broken by the fault line dividing both families, and by the terrible tragedy that will engulf them all. A trgedy whose true origins only become clear many years later…

A story of love and redemption, faith and forgiveness, Ask Again, Yes reveals the way childhood memories change when viewed fro the distance of adulthood – villains lose their menace, and those who appeared innocent seem less so. It’s a story of how, if we’re lucky, the violence lurking beneath everyday life can be vanquished by the power of love.

First Impressions: I have to confess when I began to write this post I was only a couple of chapters in…now I’m a bit further ….but I still wanted to post this…since it was already for the most part written and it’s my first go at this meme.

Anyhoo….the book…Ask Again, Yes….I am loving it so far and predict it will be at least 4 stars if not 5.

Something about me – I am a people watcher – and I find that I gravitate to character driven novels. I am intrigued by peoples motives; their thought processes, their responses….how they think, feel and behave. I am fascinated by how peoples’ inner world guides their outer world….I should have been a psychologist not an educator. So this book is exactly the type of book that reels me in. Having only just been introduced to the characters, I am already captivated by both Anne and Lena. I need to know who they really are – their past, why they act the way they do and the emotions that drive them.

I NEED TO KNOW!!!

And I’ll be fully focused on finding out over the next couple of days.

Happy Reading!!
