Welcome to WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.
What do you have to do to join in?
It’s pretty simple….all you have to do is answer the 3 W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you will read next?
Link your blog in the comments at Sam’s weekly post and then go blog hopping to find out what others are reading.
Here’s my 3 W’s for this week:
Currently reading:
I’m currently in a love/hate relationship with The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern …while I am reading it I am loving it…I don’t want to put it down. When I am not reading it I forget it’s even there; finding it hard to pick it up again. I’m about 3/5 through and I can unequivocally say this book doesn’t come anywhere close to The Night Circus in my affections. This makes me sad…I had high hopes for Erin’s second novel…but alas I’ll be happy when I finish it. Hopefully I’ll still be able to give it at least 3 or 4 stars. We’ll see!
I’ve just started Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid…the blurb hooked me straight away….then I saw that it was this month’s pick for Read It Forward Book Club….so that’s a done deal. I downloaded it on audio immediately; set it to double time and pressed play. I envisage this will be a super quick read and one that will rate highly.
Recently finished:
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver…A NetGalley ARC that was unputdownable and earned itself 5 stars. Hopefully I will manage some time this week to type up a quick reveiw…there are not enough hours in a day.
The Gifted School by Bruce Holsinger…so I didn’t love this one…it was just so-so. As a mum and an educator I’ve seen my fair share of backstabbing, drama and ridiculousness between parents over their ‘gifted’ children but I can’t say I ever felt the need to get involved in all of that. And that was kind of how I felt about this book. I was not emotionally or intellectually invested in the melodrama. I didn’t care enough about any of the characters…except maybe Tessa…..to really care about the outcome of the book. 😦 So that kinda sucked.
Up next:
I’ve got a couple of ARCs that need to be read – The Silent Treatment by Abbie Greaves and The Lonely Fajita by Abigail Mann.
Happy reading!

I felt the same about The Starless Sea. I wanted to love it – it was so promising – but I found it so disappointing. Boo.

I’m glad it’s not just me who feels that way….I still have 180 pages of hard slog to get through …and oh so many more doors.

If it feels like a slog, don’t be afraid to let it go! ❤

Same here – I just put The Starless Sea in my WWW as a disappointment and I loved The Night Circus. Boo! https://www.autismfamilypower.com/www-wednesday-2-5-20/

The Night Circus is one of my favourite books ever…it’s the one I always recommend when asked for a good book.

I’ve been wondering if I should pick up The Starless Sea but I’ve been hearing a lot of lackluster things lately where people are having similar reactions as you. The Two Lives of Lydia Bird looks interesting though!

Definitely pick up Lydia…she’s great!!!
Maybe we all had unrealistic expectations for The Starless Sea…..I wonder if I hadn’t read The Night Circus would I still feel so disappointed.

The Lonely Fajita looks so cute, I’ll look forward to your thoughts on that one.
The Gifted School sounds like something to be avoided…. ugh.
