Thanks to the lovely Shanah at Bionic Book Worm for yet another wonderful Top 5 Tuesday topic – Books that made me laugh.
I’ve decided to add the 2019 bit because my memory is not what it once was and Goodreads, thankfully, has a list of all the books I read last year…making my whole life that much easier 😉
So here is my disclaimer…
I’m not really someone who LOLs over a storyline or characters. I may give a wry smile or tiny giggle under my breath but very few books make me laugh out loud. If I do LOL it’s not necessarily because the character has done or said something funny….although sometimes it is…..usually it’s because of secondhand embarrassment or some personality trait that I relate to. I like books with quirky….often quite odd….characters that light up my face when I’m reading.
And so here is a list of books that made me do that…..some had real LOLs and some just lit up happy faces.
Nothing says quirky but relatable quite like Nina Hill…. The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman …if you haven’t read it yet, absolutely do….it’s super entertaining!

No book LOL list of mine would be complete without some Mhairi McFarlane….in fact ALL Mhairi McFarlane novels fit in this list but these are the two I read last year….Don’t You Forget About Me and It’s Not Me, It’s You.

Ok….so this book was actually funny…charming, quirky and all those wonderful things…The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary….and if I was to do this topic again for 2020 I’m sure her second novel The Switch would be on that list.

And lastly….The Cactus by Linda Holmes….I think it’s the uniquely British wit that gets me…..it’s in my genes. If you haven’t read it already but are thinking of doing so, I highly recommend listening to the audio version…it’s fantastic!

What books made you laugh in 2019? Are any of these on your list?
Thanks for sharing these–I could definitely use a laugh these days! I’ve been meaning to read The Flatshare for ages!

The Flatshare has got to be one of my favorite Rom Coms!!! I absolutely loved it. Also I just finished If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane and I thought it was fantastic. It has made me want to check out some of her other books and now you have convinced me!
