The Blurb:
Combining the emotional depth of The Art of Racing in the Rain with the magical spirit of The Life of Pi, Lily and the Octopus is an epic adventure of the heart.
When you sit down with Lily and the Octopus, you will be taken on an unforgettable ride.
The magic of this novel is in the read, and we don’t want to spoil it by giving away too many details. We can tell you that this is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can’t live without.
For Ted Flask, that someone special is his aging companion Lily, who happens to be a dog. Lily and the Octopus reminds us how it feels to love fiercely, how difficult it can be to let go, and how the fight for those we love is the greatest fight of all.

My Review:
SO! MUCH! EYE! RAIN!
Not helped by the fact that I read the whole book with my own sausage dog ‘soulmate’ on my lap, I cried buckets.
This is not my usual read and I probably would never have picked it up except for the dachshund on the cover but I am so glad I did. Even as an emotional wreck, tears streaming down my face, I want to reread it straight away.
From the very first page, I knew this book was going to hurt but I also understood that there would be moments of pure joy and I was not disappointed.
Beginning on a Thursday night, the night Ted and Lily set aside to talk about boys they think are cute, the story immediately connected with the dog lover in me. I could imagine Lily sitting with her dad, head tilting side to side as they chatted, the bond they shared evident from the first paragraph and carried through to the bittersweet ending.
I loved their ‘conversations’, Lily’s pure puppy (EVERYTHING IN CAPS) excitement over everything and the way she and Ted held onto each other as they navigated life together. The happy memories, the sad moments, the unmistakeable and unbreakable bond between canine and human, artfully showcased on every page. If you’ve ever loved a dog with your whole heart, this book is for you, just don’t forget the tissues!!
