Let’s talk Bookish is a weekly meme hosted by Aria @ Book Nook Bits where each Friday bloggers write blogposts discussing the topic of the week, sharing their opinions and spreading the bookish love by visiting each other’s posts.
This week’s topic is: Is there such a things as buying too many books?
Prompts: Is there such a thing as buying too many books? Do you limit the number of books you buy? Do you only buy certain types of books, or books from certain authors? Are there any books you’re hoping to get over the holidays?
Discussion:
Not in my house!
My hubby and I have a saying that “there’s always money in the budget for books”.
We are both big readers (with very different reading interests) and have been known to splurge big on books in our almost 10 years together. Sometimes we actually set out to spoil ourselves and each other with books and other days, it’s a happy accident that books fall off the shelves and into our shopping basket. The reason for the splurge generally dictates how many books we buy, for example if we are just out getting our groceries and we see a book we want we’ll grab just that one book, but…if it’s someone’s birthday, an anniversary or Christmas there really is no set limit.
On top of this, there’s a whole lot of digital purchasing/downloading of books from various places, mostly by me. I do try and stick to books included in my subscription, but every now and then, a book comes along that is a must-have.
I don’t tend to have a preference for the types of books I buy. I usually just pick up whatever I like on the day, although I do have certain authors that I always gravitate to, who’s books I must own. That said, it often depends on availability. We have surprisingly few really good books stores locally and I quite often have to shop online for books that I’m particularly wanting.
I don’t have a set list of books that I’m hoping for over the holidays but I am excited to go book shopping over the festive season.
