Weekly Bookish Wrap Up: 20th April 2025

Happy Sunday bookish peeps!

Sorry I’m posting this a bit late but we did a thing…

We adopted a rescue cat and I’m smitten.

Her name is Esther….Essie as we are calling her….and she’s had quite a traumatic start to life. She was rescued, pregnant and fighting for survival, from a property that had over 50 cats. She gave birth in foster care, where two of her babies passed away and she shared mothering duties of the rest with another mum cat. She was underweight, covered in fleas and very scared.

When we went to meet her, we were told to expect her to take a week or two to warm up and that she was going to need a lot of patience. She tolerated our presence well enough that we decided to adopt her and brought her home where she has surprised us all. She has been super affectionate and curious about her new home. The pictures above are from her first night at home, making herself comfortable in the human bed. She has the loudest purr and gives solid headbutts when she wants attention. And she always wants belly rubs, particularly when I’m in bed trying to read.

Bookish things:

Being at home has been wonderful for my reading and I wish I didn’t have to ever go back to work. My dream would be to be a stay at home furbaby mumma, reader and blogger, unfortunately that doesn’t pay the mortgage, so I really need to win the lottery.

This week I’ve read 4 books…and honestly could have read a lot more if I hadn’t gotten caught up, watching true crime TV. I devoured Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage in a sitting. Then I put my mind to reading some of my backlist books from last year’s TBR, completing 2 of those – The Baby Plan by Emma Bennet and The Lost Letters of Evelyn Wright by Clare Swatman. I also read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, finally giving into the hype. It was so good I read that in a sitting too, although I’m not sure if I want to read the series. I feel like I could read it as a standalone and leave it at that.

Bookish Challenges:

2025 Goodreads Reading Challenge: 37/75 books

Audiobook Challenge: 12/50 audiobooks

Non Fiction Reader Challenge: 3/12 books

And that’s my bookish week. How was yours?
