Bookish Quarterly Review – January to March

The first three months of the year have positively flown by and while my blogging has been a little bit hit and miss, I have been powering on with my reading.

One of my reading goals for the year was to read a little (or a lot) everyday and I have, for the most part, been able to stick with that. There have been exceptions, like when I had COVID and just after my surgery, but I have made a conscious effort to pick up a book everyday.

I’ve read 28 books8885 pages – so far this year. This equates to 37% of my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal of 75 books. With the exception of 3 books, every book has been a 4 star read. I am yet to read a 5 star read this year and honestly, I don’t know what it will take for me to rate something that high. I have read a lot of wonderful books already this year but none meet that unputdownable/unforgettable criteria.

Usually I read the majority of my books in a digital format, however, this year I have challenged myself to read more physical books. Having missed the page turning aspect of holding a real book in my hand over past years, approximately half of the books I’ve read over the last three months have been physical copies. Unsurprisingly, most of my physical reads have been romances which I plan on holding onto and displaying in my bookshelves (when I build some).

This year, I’ve been reading more romance series, enjoying the deeper immersion into lives of the characters and the small town feel. My favourites have been the Rebel Blue Ranch and the Lovelight series, which could easily become re-reads if had a mind to re-read.

I’ve been staying on top of my ARCs, even if my reviews have been a little behind. I’m focused on only requesting or accepting books that I am drawn to, for one reason or another, and I have strategically avoided the Read Now section on NetGalley.

I’m managing to stay mostly on top of my reading challenges, having kept them to a minimum. I’ve completed 50% of my A-Z challenge; read 12/50 audiobooks and 2/12 non-fiction books for the Non Fiction Reader Challenge. This last challenge will be the one I expect to struggle with and I will most likely end up not following the categories, choosing non-fiction books that interest me.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with how the first quarter of the year has wrapped up and hope I can keep up the momentum for the rest of the year.

How did your quarter wrap up? How are you travelling with your reading challenges?

If you’ve created a quarterly wrap up post, feel free to share a link in the comments below. I’d love to come and take a look.

  1. You’re doing great with your reading goals! I’m mostly on top of my reviews. I finished more books than normal this week so I have a couple to write this weekend. I do enjoy physical books over Kindle, although my Kindle is more convenient to carry around. Happy reading!

    1. Kindle would definitely be easier but I only have the app on my phone and I find myself getting sidetracked by social media.

Good luck with your review writing. I look forward to reading them. I get a lot of enjoyment from reading your thoughts.
