2025 Reading Firsts Book Tag

It’s Tag Thursday and today I’m doing the 2025 Reading Firsts Book Tag as found on Dini’s blog, dinipandareads. I remember doing this tag at the same time last year – 2024 edition – and thought I’d like to do it again, so here goes.

First book read in 2025:

Nobody’s Perfect by Sally Kilpatrick

First review of 2025:

Also Nobody’s Perfect by Sally Kilpatrick. I started out really well with my reviews this year but then they got away from me, as they always do. You can read my review here.

First debut read in 2025:

I haven’t read any debut novels this year and that’s something I need to remedy. I don’t even know how that happened.

First new-to-me author of 2025:

Nora Nguyen

I’m not going to put Sally Kilpatrick again…instead I will share my second new-to-me author of 2025, Nora Nguyen. Her novel, Adam and Evie’s Matchmaking Tour, was a grumpy x sunshine romance, set in Vietnam, for something new and different.

First book of 2025 that slayed me:

Starling House by Alix E Harrow

One of my favourite books of the year so far…

First book of 2025 I wish I could get back the time spent reading it:

The Electricity of Every Living Thing by Katherine May

Not a bad book, just not what I was expecting and really not for me. You can read my review here.

First 5 star book of 2025

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Totally worth the hype, however I don’t think I want to read the rest of the series. Still undecided.

Now it’s your turn.

If you would like to do this tag, please link back to this post so that I can read your answers.

  1. Loved reading your answers! Starling House was amazing and one of my top 2024 reads 😍 I read my first McFadden last month and maybe I started with the wrong book by her but I wasn’t particularly blown away or impressed? I may still check out The Housemaid though since it’s so well loved! Also, I fully relate to reviews getting away from me already this year. So many to catch up on… I hope you continue to have an amazing reading year in 2025! 😊

    1. Thanks Dini!

Which McFadden book did you read? I’m torn as to whether I would read any more of her books although I loved The Housemaid. I feel a bit like I’ve tried her writing but now I’m done.
