It’s that time of the year…time to look back at the progress I’ve made on my reading and blogging goals…and to make a plan for the rest of the year. I love these kinds of posts….writing them and reading the posts of others. I get great pleasure out of tracking my stats, seeing tiny improvements and sharing small wins throughout the year.
So let’s take a look at how I’m tracking so far this year.
Reading goals:
Read 75 books this year – I am well on my way to reaching this goal having read 66/75 books to the end of June. Will this year be the year I reach 100 books? That would be a personal milestone. I’ve been close twice but never quite made it.
Read at least 6 – 7 books per month – February was the month I read the least – only 6 books. Every other month has been between 10 and 15 books, so again, I am really happy with my progress.
Read a little (or a lot) every day: A bit hit and miss but I am usually able to read something most days. I’ve read 22, 349 pages this year already and hope not to slow down.
Listen to audiobooks every chance I get: This goal has been tricky because I find it difficult to stay on track if I’m doing anything, other than driving, while listening to an audiobook. I have attempted to have a book on while cooking and cleaning but I end up switching to a playlist instead.
Read only what interests me : Again, tricky. I pick books up excited by the blurb but then when it doesn’t turn out to be as promised I still push through, hoping it will get better. In the second half of this year I want to DNF sooner.
Plan my reading/reading challenges: Yes and no. I do track what I’m reading for challenges but I don’t necessarily plan what book I’ll read and when. Somehow, books just magically slot in where they are supposed to go and challenges get completed.
Keep my TBR in check: I was doing so well with this goal. I had even read most of my backlist books from 2024 but then I started adding more and more books that interest me and it’s starting to feel a little out of hand. I might need a bit of a midyear sort out.
Use my reading tracker: I love my reading tracker. It’s one that I created myself and I add to it every week, tracking books, blogposts and challenges.
Blogging goals:
Create a blogging schedule and stick to it: I have created a blogging schedule and for the most part have been sticking to it, other than when I’ve been unwell or in hospital. Although in the second half of the year, I would like to revamp this schedule and make a few changes to what I post and what memes I take part in.
Post 4-5 times a week consistently: I’d say 80% of the time I manage to fulfil this goal. There are times when life gets in the way but, for the most part, I post 4 – 5 times a week. I try to give myself one full afternoon a week, usually on a Sunday, where I sit alone and schedule the upcoming week’s posts.
Participate in challenges/tags/memes: I love challenges, tags and memes but find there isn’t always enough time to do all the ones I want to do. Hopefully creating a new blogging schedule in the second half of the year will help streamline my process and allow me to do more of what I love.
Read, like, comment more: I have definitely been a lot more visible in the bookish community, enjoying being part of something much bigger that just me and my keyboard.
Increase my subscribers to 300: Over the last six months I’ve built my following from 251 subscribers to 300. I know, for some, that’s not a lot, but for me, who never really expected to be able to stick with blogging, it is HUGE!! I’m so grateful for everyone who follows me and I appreciate every like and comment.
Create social media accounts that link to my blog: I have created social media accounts on Instagram, Threads, Bluesky and Pinterest but I have been quite slack in keeping them up to date and in spending any time scrolling. I’m not sure what my plan for the future might be regarding keeping these sites going. I have toyed with creating a Facebook account but as yet it’s just one more thing I would have to find time for and I don’t know how much benefit I would get out of it.
