Weekly Bookish Wrap Up: 5th October 2025

Happy Sunday bookish peeps!

My Weekly Bookish Wrap Up is linked with the Sunday Salon and the Sunday Post.

The Sunday Salon is a meme hosted by Readerbuzz and is a place to link up and share what you have been doing during the week. It’s also a great opportunity to visit other blogs and join in the conversations going on there. While the Sunday Post is a meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and is a chance to share news. It’s a post to recap the past week on your blog and share news about what is coming up on your blog for the week ahead.

Non-bookish things:

As the Australian childcare industry continues to fall apart, I’ve decided it’s time I head back to university. I’m luckier than many educators in that I have found a centre where I am thriving in my role, however I am ready to think about taking my knowledge and passion in a different direction.

In November, I’m returning to a long-held dream to study psychology and become a behaviour therapist. I expect the workload is going to be pretty tough, so I may not be as bookish as I have been (the past month notwithstanding), but I’m open to the challenge and looking forward to forging a new career path.

On the home front, I’ve been content just plodding along, undertaking small tasks regularly as I turn our house into a home. We spent a full Saturday at IKEA, giving the budget a big shock and coming home with a tonne of storage solutions which I will gradually organise.

I’ve been working on my crochet during the evenings, attempting to make my first solid granny square blanket with most beautiful variegated yarn of purples, deep blues and a little pink. I’m 22 squares in, with 8 squares to go, I think. I’m playing with the measurements as I go and then I have to learn how to join them together.

Bookish things:

I’m just now returning to my blog after a 5-6 week slump of sorts, but I have still been reading. Mostly I’ve been reading audiobooks but this week I managed to read a physical ‘hold it in my hand’ book – How to Break My Heart by Kat T Masen. I bought this book, along with three others, from the author’s actual bookstore – Books Ever After. A stunning store in Bowral that I visited while on my birthday weekend trip and will definitely pop into again soon.

I did read an audiobook as well – The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall. Goodreads states that it is for fans of Practical Magic and Gilmore Girls and I guess I can kinda see that, but it was missing a some of the key elements. This was the author’s debut novel and has had some pretty harsh reviews (which I only just read) but it hasn’t deterred me from reading her second novel Spells, Strings and Forgotten Things. I have this book in paperback, sitting on my TBR trolley (another IKEA purchase…finally), and look forward to picking it soon.

Bookish Challenges:

2025 Goodreads Reading Challenge: 96/75 books (128%)

Audiobook Challenge: 52/50 audiobooks (104%)

Non Fiction Reader Challenge: 10/12 books (83%)

And that’s my bookish week. How was yours?
