Wrapping up 2025

Happy New Year bookish peeps! I hope you’ve had an amazing festive season celebrating with the people you love.

For me the weeks and months leading up to the festive season were overwhelmingly busy but the actual celebrations were relaxed and wonderful. I spent time with family and friends, hosted an intimate Christmas dinner with just my kids and spent a fair amount of time at home just pottering around. Hubby and I both had time off work so we played games of UNO, read books, binge watched trash TV and did a little prepping for the new year. We made plans for our house including choosing a paint colour for our living areas…FINALLY! … and created a landscaping plan for the front yard. And we just enjoyed each other’s company.

The end of 2025 saw some biggish changes for me personally, beginning with going back to university. With 15 – 20 years until I can retire, I decided to follow my dream of studying psychology and work towards becoming a behavioural therapist. I began my degree in November and have been trying to settle into a routine that includes study. Unfortunately, that’s left little time to blog and I’ve been absent from the bookish community for what feels like forever.

Even though I’ve been absent from blogging, I have still been reading for pleasure …not just textbooks… and I managed to surpass my goal of 100 books in a year, reading 116 books in 2025. The most I’ve ever read in a year. YAY me! To view what I read and how I rated them, visit my Goodreads Reading Challenge page.

I also surpassed my Audiobook Challenge goal of 50 books, reading 66 books. Unfortunately I didn’t exactly complete the Non-Fiction Reader Challenge but I did learn a lot about what I like and don’t like when it comes to non-fiction. I struggled to find books of interest that covered the categories set out by the challenge and found that I really need to be in the mood for non-fiction. While I didn’t read one book a month – some months I read 3 and other months I read 0 – I did read more than 12 non-fiction books during the year, so I’m going to consider that close enough.

How did your year wrap up? Are you ready for 2026? What are your go-to challenges to participate in?

  1. Good for you that you surpassed your goals this year! 2025 was a little bit tough for everyone and reading definitely took the back burner for some.

I managed to hit my goals this year and I’m definitely looking forward to another year 🙂
