Non-bookish things:

It’s unbelievably lovely weather for Winter and I plan on soaking up the sun most of today. I’ve deferred uni for a semester to give myself a chance to see whether or not I miss it… so far not missing it… and spend more time doing the things that I enjoy. The fact that uni is not part of the ‘things that I enjoy’ list speaks volumes but it’s only the first week.

I have been able to spend time crocheting, colouring in and yep…even reading. I’ve been doing some online browsing, making a sort of birthday wish list for my birthday which is at the end of the month. I definitely would like some fancier colouring in supplies and I’m looking at getting an actual Kindle. I normally use my Kindle app to read but the notifications from other apps make it difficult to concentrate. Also my phone is a bit small for reading for extended periods of time and my tablet is too bulky. So I’m thinking an e-reader.

Do you own one? How do you find it? Any recommendations?

Bookish things:

This week I’ve had three books on the go and I’ve popped my cowboy romance to the side. I just haven’t found the time to start it yet.

Honestly the book that got the most attention this week was These Summer Storms by Sarah MacLean. It was the only book I read in full, mainly because it was on audio but also because at about halfway through I became hooked and began to listen every chance I got, skipping lunch time gossip to sit and read.

As for the other two books….it has taken a minute but I’ve finally gotten into reading Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score. I plan on finishing it this week… hopefully… but I kind of wish I’d done this whole series on audiobook. I think I would have enjoyed listening to the characters being brought to life. Maybe I will read the rest of the series this way.

And I’ve picked up a non-fiction book that was recommended to me by someone at work – Illuminating Care: The Pedagogy and Practice of Care in Early Childhood Communities by Carol Garboden Murray. It’s valuable reading for this term’s research and an uplifting reminder of how and why we do what we do as educators… because some days are tough atm and it would be easy to leave the industry and never look back.
